SCREENFLIX: Recent watches and stuff I loved!

Hey readers! October has definitely been a hectic month so far and although I had some moments of fun and others of great distress, I did ended up binging some excellent stuff on TV. There was a mix of aesthetically pleasing Ghibli movies, a hyped show which I finally got the time to binge, and a little bit of magic. Without further ado, let’s get into all the exciting shows and films I watched this month.

TITLE: Midnight Mass
MY RATING: ★★★★
SYNOPSIS: The arrival of a charismatic priest brings miracles, mysteries and renewed religious fervor to a dying town
CREATOR: Mike Flanagan
AGE RATING: 16+
THOUGHTS: This new Netflix original was like a breath of fresh air! I loved the storyline which was a mix of horror, drama and suspense. The beginning was a little slow so it did take me some time to get connected with the characters but once the main track started, it was intensely addictive. Mike Flanagan proved once again why he will never fail to be brilliant. Perfect Halloween recommendation!

TITLE: Wizards Of Waverly Place
MY RATING: ★★★★★
SYNOPSIS: The Russo family own a restaurant and live in New York. However, the father is a wizard while the children are in training. The child who masters the powers shall be given the family wand.
CREATOR: Todd J. Greenwald
AGE RATING: 7+
THOUGHTS: Leaving behind all my watchlist, I ended up binging this childhood gem again. Selena Gomez staring this magical show about the Russo family wizards always stands true to its universal audience with quirky characters, ridiculous plotlines and hilarious episodes. Definitely an enjoyable watch for any magical month!

TITLE: Julie and The Phantoms
MY RATING: ★★★★★
SYNOPSIS: Teenager Julie finds her passion for music and life while helping the Phantoms, a trio of ghostly guys, become the band they were never able to be.
CREATOR: Dan Cross and David Hoge
AGE RATING: 13+
THOUGHTS: This show! Wow! I was left speechless and ended up binging it in two days without any care for my hectic schedule. The plotline, the music, the songs and the ever passionate episode called ‘Unsaid Emily‘. I laughed, danced and cried along with Madison Reyes and Charlie Gillespie. Most recommended from me in this list!

TITLE: There’s Someone Inside Your House
MY RATING: ★★
SYNOPSIS: After moving to live with her grandmother in Hawaii, a teenager must confront her past after fellow students at her school are murdered.
DIRECTOR: Patrick Brice
AGE RATING: 18+
THOUGHTS: Out of all the stuff I watched this month, this movie was perhaps the most disappointing one. What started off as a really violent and promising slasher story fell short towards the end with cliche moments and predictable ending. Although the actors gave their best performances, their hardwork fell short due to the lazy storyline.

TITLE: Howl’s Moving Castle
MY RATING: ★★★★
SYNOPSIS: When an unconfident young woman is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent yet insecure young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking castle
DIRECTOR: Hayao Miyazaki
AGE RATING: 7+
THOUGHTS: My first Ghibli movie and it was an amazing watch! I absolutely adored the simplistic nature of this stunning fantastical story and the animation was one of the most brilliant ones I have ever had the good fortune to watch. The beautiful plotline went along with the aesthetically pleasing scenes. If you haven’t watched this gem yet, don’t forget to add it to your lists!

TITLE: Castle In The Sky
MY RATING: ★★★★★
SYNOPSIS: A young boy and a girl with a magic crystal must race against pirates and foreign agents in a search for a legendary floating castle.
DIRECTOR: Hayao Miyazaki
AGE RATING: 7+
THOUGHTS: Another Ghibli movie I had the intense pleasure of watching and this was even better. The characters of Pazu and Sheeta were so interesting and their story was adorable. There was adventure, action, family, and friendship. A must watch for people who enjoy beautiful characters, powerful relationships with an amazing adventure!

TITLE: You (Season 1)
MY RATING: ★★★★
SYNOPSIS: A dangerously charming, intensely obsessive young man goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by.
CREATOR: Greg Berlanti
AGE RATING: 18+
THOUGHTS: I finally jumped into the hyped train and ended up binging You (Season 1) and I must say…the hype is worth it! The twists and turns in this show were so cunning and Joe was just menacing. I felt so sorry towards the end for all his victims and yet couldn’t help feel a connection to his character. Absolutely brilliantly written adaptation!

TITLE: After We Fell
MY RATING: ★★★
SYNOPSIS: As Tessa makes a life-changing decision, revelations about her family and Hardin’s past threaten to derail her plans and end the couple’s intense relationship
DIRECTOR: Castille Landon
AGE RATING: 18+
THOUGHTS: The third installment of After was pretty enjoyable but fell a little short on the monotonous dialogue delivery by Hardin. Unlike the other films, this one had Tessa take a stronger stand against Hardin’s behavior and her career. Josephine Langford was undoubtedly the brightest star of the movie and not only because of how gorgeous she looked but also due to the strong characterization. A perfect one-time watch and the ending might leave you wanting for the next part asap.

These were my most recent watches and my thoughts on them. Have you watched any of these? If so, which ones did you enjoy the most and what were your October favorites? Let me know!
